It’s been a month since the Iowa Supreme Court Chief Justice issued a supervisory order banning all weapons from county courthouses.

Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams says he likes the supervisory order because it gives courthouses more security.

“I think it’s good. We don’t need a bunch of weapons walking around the courtroom or courthouse period. There’s too many heated situations there and having a weapon involved, even though most people might not know it’s there, it’s still there and there’s always that temptation.”

Previously, Williams says the courthouse policy was banning all weapons. However, if anyone was found carrying a concealed weapon, they would be charged with criminal trespass. He adds the courthouse must follow the supervisory order going forward.
