The Greene County High School baseball team went 14-13 this season. It didn’t look like a winning season would become a reality when the team was sitting at 7-11, but seven wins in the last nine games carried the Rams to their second winning season in the last three years. Even in 2016 when Greene County posted a record of 11 wins and 16 losses, the team went 8-3 in its last 11 games.

Head Coach Mark Sawhill talked with Raccoon Valley Radio about the strong second halves the last two years. “I think we just start feeling like we know what we’re doing. They finally get a little confidence, but I do wish they’d start a little earlier. However, you want them hot by the end of the season. You’d hate to start 8-0 or 8-2, then end up losing a bunch, so I guess we’re doing it the right way. But again, it’d be nice to get some wins early.”

The coach added Spring sports are in full swing when baseball practice begins, so having all the players at  practices until baseball games are actually played can be a challenge. That could also be a factor in not piling up the wins early.
