The Jefferson City Council recently approved the final pay estimate for projects that were completed earlier this year.

City Administrator Mike Palmer says the final payment was made to Kingston Construction for work done around Hy-Vee, the alleyway behind the Sierra Community Theater and Mulberry Street west of Sparky’s One Stop.

“This was a relatively small amount. It’s just the balance of what they call the retainage, or the amount of money that was held back on the contract. It’s only $13,000. This was based on about $260,000 (total) project.”

Palmer points out that there is another set of road projects he anticipates will start very soon. One of the projects is to repave the alleyways around Thomas Jefferson Gardens.

“Couple of alleys that surround them, they really need improvement. They’ve just lived their useful life. There will certainly be some inconveniences with equipment in the area. But it’ll be a complete removal of the existing alley and all new concrete will be put down.”

The other project is repaving a portion of Deer Run on the west side of the City. Palmer says funds for all of these projects are paid through the City’s Local Option Sales and Services Tax revenue.
