Greene County Supervisors 7_24The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Monday in regular session.

During open forum, County Environmental Health Administrator Chuck Wenthold said the MidAmerican wind turbine project is going smoothly. He also mentioned that when the turbines begin to arrive next month, the parts will be brought in from the north on the blacktop road and then down X Avenue to avoid the main detour route for the Highway 30 overpass bridge project.

Animal shelter committee member Steve Haupert then gave an update. He said the committee is proposing a $650,000-$750,000 facility on the southwest corner of the Greene County Development Corporation West Business Park. He said the committee will fundraise for building the new shelter and requested the County to commit $15,000 toward the annual operation cost, while the City of Jefferson will be requested to commit $35,700. The Supervisors verbally committed to the project.

The Board then hired Adam Peters as a full-time deputy for the Sheriff’s office and four applications for the disabled veteran homestead credit were also approved.

Finally, County Engineer Wade Weiss gave several updates. Following an accident last week with a secondary roads dump truck, Weiss said they will assess the total damage later this week. He mentioned the lowest bidder for the E-57 bridge was Iowa Bridge and Culvert for $574,544. Weiss said he would like the bridge replaced before the end of the year.
