The Panora City Council met Monday evening in regular session.

A large portion of the meeting was devoted to the City’s sidewalks project. They are presently in phase one of their Sidewalks Maintenance Program, focusing on the north half of town. The City has sent out letters to homeowners regarding the need to repair sidewalks on their property. Three locations in particular were also given the option to remove the sidewalks completely. The homeowners have until October 1st to comply.

City Administrator Lisa Grossman also informed the Council the sidewalk program will be entering phase two, which will focus on maintenance of the newly repaired sidewalks, starting in April of 2019. The inspection process should take about four years. Another topic discussed was an update on Community Development Block Grant funds. The City received $375,000 to work on 10 projects, which they were able to stretch into an 11th project. They still have around $19,000 left, which they will either use to help replace older mechanical systems or return it to the state.

Other action items included: approving the proposal from Feldman and Company of Carroll for auditing services; rejecting a request to vacate an alley; requesting a project-based report from the City’s electric department; and accepting a petition to change the makeup of the Library Board of Trustees to be put on the November ballot.

Additionally, the Council approved the first reading of an amendment to the City’s snow and ice removal code. Grossman added they may make more changes during the next reading. All Panora City Council meetings can be viewed at CityofPanora.com.
