MidAmerican Energy’s Beaver Creek Wind Turbine project is continuing to show progress.
Director of Communications Tina Potthoff says crews have been cutting in access roads and installing the foundations for the 41 of 83 wind turbines that are located in Greene County, and the others in Boone County. To help expedite the project, Potthoff points out that they usually have one main site where most equipment moves in and out of.
“We usually have staging areas throughout the project. What happens is equipment might be delivered there and then dispersed throughout the whole project. But that allows us to have a centralized location that we’re working from and really try to minimize our footprint on the project.”
She adds that MidAmerican Energy also tries to be good stewards of the land they are working on.
“While you may see some turbine access roads being created or you may see some other construction equipment in the area, just know that right after we’re finished with that, we start to work to restore that area right away.”
Potthoff says the Beaver Creek Wind Turbine project totals over 18-square-miles and will add 170-megawatts of energy. It will also provide more than $54 million to landowners over the lifespan of the project and over $66 million to both counties in property taxes.
