There’s still time to get your name on the ballot for the September school board elections, but that time is quickly dwindling.
The deadline to file nomination papers is August 1st, so the Dallas County Auditor’s Office reminds potential candidates to submit their paperwork as soon as possible. There are several school board seats open in Dallas County, including: Perry, where two seats are up for election, and the signatures of at least 50 eligible electors of the district are required on nomination petitions; Adel-DeSoto-Minburn, where two seats are available, and 50 signatures are needed; and West Central Valley, where one seat is up for election, and 42 signatures are needed.
While the majority of the West Central Valley District is in Guthrie County, Dallas County has the higher taxable value, so they are the control county for the district. In all cases, the candidates must reside within the school district. Nomination papers must be turned in to the office of the candidate’s respective school board secretary no later than 5 p.m. on August 1st. Packets are available from the school board secretary, the Dallas County Auditor’s Office, and at the Secretary of State’s website. A link to the website can be found below.
