It was a record-breaking year for the Perry Public Library’s kids summer reading program, as over 500 children participated.
Children’s Librarian Suzanne Kestel says the summer was filled with fun activities, and believes the children enjoyed every minute. Raccoon Valley Radio asked her what events in particular she thought worked well, and the first thing that came to mind was the kickoff event, Kids Fest. “It was very successful. We had not done a summer reading kickoff before. So it was that very first Saturday in June. Lots of things for the children to do, which they always enjoy. And we had quite a few register that day. So that was a great start to our summer reading.”
Other events Kestel thought were particularly memorable include: a program devoted to seashore and seashells using the water and sand table; the yearly tradition of hiding things around the library and rewarding kids when the find them; and other hands-on activities like legos, marble mazes, and a domino run.
