With players and coaches reporting to their respective playing fields and courts for fall sports, there lies a lot of excitement, happiness, and expectations.

For ACGC fall athletics, the bar has been set pretty high from a year prior and it was done so on the cross country course where Kate Crawford took the girls 1A individual crown not to mention a third place finish for the Charger boys in the 2016 state meet.

With all of last year’s success setting the bar quite high for head coach Collin Shawgo and his Charger squads, the focus in on sustaining all of that success. Raccoon Valley Radio got the chance to take a look at the matter from an Activities Directors viewpoint talking with ACGC AD Jake Mohling. He noted while there may be more pressure on Charger cross country this year to get things started, there’s been one thing he’s noticed that will keep the success rolling into the new season.

“I think they get the chance to set the tone for the year and I do think that cross country is probably the one with the pressure on them, they’ve got a state champ returning in Kate Crawford and then the boys finished third as a team but we’ve had great numbers with our running programs over the summer. Coach will send pictures and there’s 30 some kids running 3-5 miles every week and so that’s great to see,” explained Mohling.

Both Charger cross country teams will begin their paths back to success starting with their first meet of the season which opens up at home on August 24th. There ACGC will be entertaining an 11 team field.
