The Dallas County Board of Supervisors convened Tuesday morning in regular session.
The boardroom was filled to capacity, largely thanks to the presence of the Chinese Association of Iowa educational tour. The organizer explained the students ranged from middle school through college-age, each recognized for their leadership qualities. Additionally, the room was filled with the mayors of several cities in Dallas County who wished to weigh-in on the local option sales tax sunset issue. Starting with Perry Mayor Jay Pattee, the city leaders in attendance universally opposed a countywide sunset date imposed by the Supervisors. In the end, the Board was convinced and voted to not institute the sunset.
A large portion of the meeting was spent in a workshop for future court space needs. They also discussed Iowa code chapter 724, as it relates to firearms in the courthouse. While they discussed it at length, there was no action at the meeting. The topic will be discussed at future meetings. The Supervisors also approved a skid loader purchase for the secondary roads department, gave certificates of appreciation to eight County employees for their years of service, and discussed the language they’ll use for the local option sales tax measure for the unincorporated areas of the County.
The meeting concluded with more discussion on the draft of a pioneer cemetery ordinance.
