It’s Media Day 2017 for the Greene County High School cross-country and volleyball teams. Jeff Lamoureux begins his first season as coach of the girls and boys cross-country teams, while veteran coach Donna Carhill returns to the volleyball court.
Coach Lamoureux has three daughters, and all are running cross-country. In addition, he inherits a girls’ team with quite a bit of experience, although Olivia Hansen graduated last Spring, and she was the top female runner for the Rams each of the past three seasons. The Greene County boys are low on experience and the program has had limited success the past several seasons.
Coach Carhill is one of the few Iowa high school volleyball coaches to take three different programs to State Tournaments. She had Scranton, Carroll High, and Jefferson-Scranton at State over the years. The last winning season overall for the Rams in volleyball was 2011, the last year as Jefferson-Scranton. In the five seasons as Greene County, the Rams have lost more matches overall than they’ve won, although the Rams of 2012, ’13, and ’14 had winning records in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play.
We’ll hear from the coaches and athletes from both sports in the coming days.
