First year Greene County head football coach Mitch Moore has waited for today for awhile. It’s day three of official practice for Iowa high school football teams and contact above the waist begins. It’s not full contact; that doesn’t happen until this Saturday, but form tackling and contact with blocking sleds and tackling dummies may take place.
Since being hired last Winter, Coach Moore has been putting the players through weight lifting and conditioning drills, along with three days of camp last week. He talked about getting closer to having full contact. “We’re still in the acclimation period. Obviously, last week at camp we weren’t allowed to have even helmets. On Monday and Tuesday of this week, helmets were added in, and now we have shoulder pads starting today. We’ve found out some things about what the players can do, but today we’ll find out more, and I can’t wait for Saturday!”
Greene County will open the season on Friday, Aug. 25 in Jefferson vs. the Knights of Kuemper Catholic at Linduska Field. All Ram games will be broadcast on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
