New Perry Farmers Market

This is National Farmers Market Week, and people are encouraged to shop at their local farmers markets, including tonight in Perry.

This is the 18th year National Farmers Market Week has been recognized. It’s organized by the U.S. Department of Agriculture for the purpose of reminding people their local farmers markets help the industry more than they realize. The USDA says farmers markets and other direct agricultural sales have contributed around $9 billion to the country’s economy.

The Chamber of Commerce organizes the Perry farmers market, which they moved from the Perry Marketplace to the Josh Davis Plaza in the beginning of July. Since the move, the market has steadily grown, topping out at 11 vendors. Vendors sell an assortment of products, including produce, baked goods, and homemade crafts and jewelry. There’s also been a face-painter in attendance. The farmers market will run today from 4-7 p.m.
