The intersection of North and 16th streets

The heated stop sign discussion for the intersections of North Street and 16th and 18th streets in Perry appears to have cooled a bit.

At their most recent meeting, the Perry City Council approached the topic once again, and this time they seemingly reached an accord. City Administrator Sven Peterson explains, “There was a lot of discussion. I know the police department did some research, public works did some research. So we kind of all looked at that and decided that probably at this time removing the stop signs on the north/southbound lanes of 18th Street was the best option. So there will be a four-way stop at 16th and North, and only the westbound traffic on North Street will have to stop at 18th Street.”

They completed the first reading of the new ordinance at the previous meeting, and the Council will consider holding the second and third readings at the next to make sure it’s in place before school starts. Peterson reminds people to be careful while driving on North Street when the stop signs are removed, as the traffic on 18th Street will no longer stop. He says they will have signs reminding motorists of that fact.
