The Greene County football team doesn’t possess great size, but new head coach Mitch Moore and his assistant coaches aren’t using that as an excuse. They’ve instilled an attitude of speed, technique, aggressiveness, and the will to win the rep. Two examples of that mantra are senior outside linebackers Cayden Gerdes and Charlie Gunn. Gerdes is listed on the team roster at 5′ 6″, 143, and Gunn at 5′ 11″, 150.
Gerdes talks about his attitude playing linebacker. “I definitely use speed and aggression. That’s basically all it is to me. I don’t care how big that guy is, I’m going to take him down whether he likes it or not.”
Gunn talked with Raccoon Valley Radio about what he likes about outside linebacker. “I have my certain zones I have to play, but I don’t have to run the exact same line and can play around with the zones.”
The Rams open the season on Friday night in Jefferson at Linduska Field vs. the Kuemper Catholic (Carroll) Knights. A freshman game kicks off at 4:45 p.m. with the varsity game set for 7:30 p.m. Coverage of the varsity contest on KG98 and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com begins Friday at 6:30 p.m.
