Just one day separates Iowa High School football teams from the start of their respective 2017 seasons.
By now most teams have a lot of preseason questions answered which is the case for the West Central Valley Wildcats. Like most teams, West Central Valley’s preseason scrimmage in Greenfield this past Friday helped to answer some of the biggest pressing questions by head coach Eric Addy and his coaching staff.
Raccoon Valley Radio was able to sit down with coach Addy as he explained some of his most pressing questions about his team before the scrimmage and the answers coming out of the scrimmage.
“Our biggest question was how our quarterback was going to preform because we haven’t had a different quarterback in two years now, Knick Badker has been starting for us for the past two years so transitioning to a new quarterback. Also some new fresh faces on the offensive line also our skill positions so I was questioning how our offense was going to do. I knew our defense was going to be solid but that’s where we wanted to take a big step was on the offensive side of the ball and we knew at the end of last season that’s where we needed to improve and then still keep up the intensity on the defensive side,” mentioned coach Addy.
The scrimmage also showed coach Addy some very positive things and he shared what impressed him most and things to work on from the scrimmage.
“We tackled very well, that was one thing I was very impressed with. We took a lot of deep shots, took a lot of home run plays and were able to connect on them and then just being more efficient running and passing the ball. I think we had a couple of defensive busts but overall definitely good building blocks,” stated coach Addy.
Coach Addy and the Wildcats will kick off their season on the road against non district county rival ACGC in Guthrie Center tomorrow night. Game kick off will begin at 7:00 pm.
