Greene County and Kuemper Catholic (Carroll) meet in the season opening football game for both on Friday night at Linduska Field in Jefferson. The teams had nearly opposite seasons in 2016 when the Knights went 9-2, won Class 2A District 7 and advanced to the quarterfinals of the playoffs. The Rams were 1-8 last year, the fewest wins in a single season in nearly 50 years, and they lost in Carroll to the Knights 34-0.

Both teams graduated some outstanding players, but in terms of experience, Kuemper Catholic appears to have an edge on paper. On offense, nine of the 11 starters are seniors and the other two are juniors. Defensively, six seniors are expected to start, along with four juniors and one sophomore.

First year head coach Mitch Moore’s lineup for Friday isn’t entirely known, but odds are it will contain more than one sophomore, and probably fewer seniors than the Knights. That being said, energy and enthusiasm is high as the Coach Moore era of Ram football is about to begin.

A freshman game at 4:45 p.m. will start things on Friday with the varsity contest to kickoff at 7:30 p.m. All Greene County varsity games can be heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. Coverage Friday night begins at 6:30 p.m.
