The crisp morning chill is in the air, and that means hunting season is right around the corner. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources will kick off their fall hunting season with fox and gray squirrels on September 2nd.
Guthrie County residents will see a large amount of fox squirrels, but gray squirrels will be harder to spot as they tend to congregate in the eastern and southern regions of Iowa.
DNR Officials say it’s also an opportunity to introduce young hunters to the outdoors. It can also be an opportunity for experienced hunters to hone their skills before the rest of the small and large game seasons open.
Squirrel hunting season runs through January 31, 2018. The daily bag limit is six and the possession limit is 12. There are no restrictions on hunting hours.
