Born of Fire

Driving down Willis Avenue in downtown Perry you may have already noticed the new addition.

The first of four sculptures depicting how Perry grew into the community it is today was installed Tuesday, and it will be officially unveiled to the public this Monday. The sculpture is titled “Born of Fire,” and it depicts a crucible pouring molten metal to recognize Perry’s industrial history. It was created by John Brommel and lighted by Mike Lambert, and it is dedicated to the late Pete VanKirk.

The sculpture series is being coordinated by the Art on the Prairie group, and the second piece is scheduled to be installed and unveiled in November during the annual Art on the Prairie event. Monday’s event will start at 7:30 p.m. with hamburgers and ice cream being served. The sculpture will be unveiled and lighted at 8:30 p.m.
