The 2017 Iowa State Fair has come and gone, and the Dallas County representation fared quite well in the competitions.
Dallas County 4-H’ers had success in several static events, with awards ranging from seals of excellence to Judge’s Choice, and even the Top 10% for Brynn Hansen’s senior clothing selection. The 4-H’ers brought home awards and recognition in more than seven different static categories.
Another Dallas County representative who excelled at the state fair was Bonnie Nelson of Adel, who claimed Best of Show honors in the Quilting division of the Fabric and Threads contest. Nelson and other Adel quilters had a great deal of success in the category. Additionally, Thorn Hill Ranch of Dexter showed the Champion Iowa Bull and Reserve Grand Champion Bull in the Dexter Cattle Show. Other competitions the residents of Dallas County had a lot of success with included the Youth Livestock Judging competition, the Beef Feeder Calf show, and the Heritage Exhibits contest.
