Today is a brand new fundraiser that will benefit three counties.
Habitour is a fundraiser for the Heart of Iowa Habitat for Humanity, which consists of Greene, Guthrie and Boone counties. Associate Director Jeff Lamoureux says the fundraiser will start in Jefferson and head down the Raccoon River Valley Trail. There are three choices for bike riders that includes 30-, 50- and 100-mile routes. Each bike rider is asked to raise $100 that will go back to Heart of Iowa Habitat for Humanity and Lamoureux points out that anything beyond that, the bike rider may choose any Habitat affiliate to send their donation.
The start times for each are at 7, 9 and 10am. Motorists are reminded to be aware that several bike riders will be on the trail all day and crossing traffic intersections. Lamoureux says they’ve partnered with Brett Cranston and Doc’s Stadium Bar and Grill in Jefferson for riders to enjoy a post-ride gathering.
“It’s a win-win for both of us. It helps out riders with a little benefit at the end of the ride with a meal and something to drink, when they’re done after a long bike ride. But hopefully it also benefit him a little bit to give his business some exposure.”
Lamoureux says he is hoping to make this an annual event.
