The principalship at St. Patrick’s Catholic School in Perry has returned to Eddie Diaz effective immediately.
Monday morning Interim Principal Doug Latham informed parents and students that Mr. Diaz was back at the school. The week before classes started, it was announced Diaz wouldn’t be continuing at the school. A petition was started and submitted to the Des Moines Diocese calling for Diaz’s reinstatement, which prompted a meeting between the parishioners and Bishop Richard Pates. Bishop Pates indicated no timetable on a decision regarding the principalship was in place, but the diocese would keep the parishioners informed.
However, on Monday morning Bishop Pates told Raccoon Valley Radio the matter ended up being resolved locally, and that Father Chris Reising and Mr. Diaz were able to discuss and resolve their concerns. Father Reising announced the reinstatement to the teachers and will follow up with a letter to all parishioners. Bishop Pates added, both Father Reising and Mr. Diaz always have the best interests of the students in mind when making any decision. He knows they are committed to the education and well-being of the students, and he’s confident the rest of the year will progress smoothly.
Raccoon Valley Radio will continue to bring more information on the situation as it becomes official.
