Perry defeated North Polk 38-31 in a double overtime thriller Friday night in Alleman.  Alexis Garrido’s 12 yard touchdown pass to Reece Dunlap to start the second overtime proved to be the game winner as the Perry defense forced an incomplete pass on fourth down to end the game.  Garrido’s touchdown pass capped off a big night for both the senior signal caller and his speedy receiver.  Garrido finished with three touchdowns on 15-22 passing for 202 yards.  Dunlap hauled in 8 passes for 116 yards including a 55 yard touchdown reception to start the second quarter.

The two teams went into overtime tied at 24 after Perry capitalized on a late Mana Martinez interception.  Perry took over at the North Polk 36 yard line and put together a 6 play drive that ended in a Garrido 5 yard touchdown run.  German Alvarenga added the extra point to tie the game at 24.

North Polk scored on the very first play of overtime as Mason Russell danced in from 10 yards out to put the Comets in the lead 31-24.  Perry came back and scored on their possession with a third down Garrido to Brandon Kenyon 3 yard touchdown pass.  Kenyon finished with 7 receptions for 82 yards.

After two negative running plays to start the second overtime, Garrido was able to find Dunlap on an underneath route for the critical 3rd and long score to send Perry to victory.

Mark Campos led the charge defensively with double digit tackles despite missing a chunk of the fourth quarter with cramping issues.  Michael Meyer recorded a sack in his first varsity start while Kade Kilmer recovered a second half fumble.

Perry starts the season 1-0 and will travel to Nevada next Friday night while North Polk (1-1) will have a bye week before they dive into district play.
