acgcThe ACGC cross country teams sent a message on their home course last Thursday. Their running proved to the rest of the conference that they aim to be the leaders of the pack this year.

The Chargers and Lady Chargers both won their home meets. The boys finished nearly 20 points ahead of 2nd place Des Moines Christian. The girls took a comfortable 15 point edge on rival Panorama to take the win. The Lady Chargers’ Kate Crawford finished in 1st individually, crossing the finish line with a time of 20 minutes and 28 seconds. Emma Swanson finished in 2nd, just twenty seconds behind Crawford.

Cross Country coach Colin Shawgo is happy about the sweep, but knows there’s a long way to go to achieve the ultimate goal. “The goal isn’t to win the Madrid meet, (or) the Panorama meet. The goal is to win the conference meet, the district meet, and perform well at the state meet.”

ACGC will next hit the fields at the Madrid Invitational. The Invitational features both Charger teams, along with teams from Ankeny Christian Academy, Colo-NESCO, Ogden, Panorama, and the hosts Madrid Tigers and Lady Tigers.
