Over 350 people attended a special scholarship fundraiser event Sunday in memory of a well-known Greene County resident.
Committee member Craig Marquardt says the meal and auction event raised over $75,000 for the Pat Fields Memorial Scholarship Fund. Attendees enjoyed a meal at Mike and Kathy Bravard’s farm, and bidding on 130 auction items donated from both inside and outside of Greene County. Committee member Laura Ballard tells Raccoon Valley Radio her impression from the day.
“It was an amazing day. It was so rewarding to see so many people come together. Pat (Fields) was a great friend to us, and to celebrate him, and to do something that we know Pat would really appreciate, which is provide scholarships to students.”
Fields died in a tractor accident in June. Ballard explains why she wanted to be a part of the committee that put the event together.
“Pat was a friend to all of us and we’re going to miss him terribly, but my family, we’re also beneficiaries of a similar event when my late husband was diagnosed with cancer. And to be able to pay that forward and help other people in the community by being involved in an event like this, was very special for me.”
Marquardt adds that the money will be managed by the Fields family, including how to distribute the funds for post secondary education scholarships to students.
