Just a week removed from selling Sheriff Chad Leonard’s vehicle, the Dallas County Sheriff’s office has been approved to purchase its replacement.
At last week’s meeting of the Board of Supervisors, the EMS department requested $12,100 to purchase Leonard’s 2012 Chevrolet Silverado so they could turn it into a first response and cadaver transport vehicle. The Sheriff’s office told the Supervisors they would come to them in the near future for a purchase request to replace the vehicle, and it only took them a week to find what they were looking for. At this week’s Supervisors meeting, the Sheriff’s office requested funds to purchase a 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe to serve as Leonard’s mobile unit command center.
The Board approved the purchase request, and the money added to their budget from selling the old vehicle will help pay for the $34,249 truck. Additional funds will be used to paint and outfit the new vehicle, which will also come from the Sheriff’s vehicle budget.
