acgcCoach McDermott and the ACGC chargers left Jarmon Field heartbroken after a tough loss to rival West Central Valley. McDermott and his squad will have the chance to erase that memory as they tangle with the Des Moines Christian Lions tonight.

The Chargers, still looking for their first win as a 1A school, seem optimistic they can end the downward trend. Coach McDermott is also upbeat, and proud of the way his team has carried themselves in practice this week. “The attitude has been tremendous. It’s been very upbeat. We’re just trying to look at all the positive things that happened in that game.”

Bryce Littler looked a little more comfortable in the pocket, but threw two interceptions to start the game against the Wildcats. The dynamic backfield duo of Logan Brinks and Ben Kingery settled Littler down and led the Chargers’ offense. The duo recorded 254 rushing yards in week one and will likely need them to carry the load again to win tonight.

The Lions of Des Moines Christian also come into tonight with a donut in the win column. There week one performance against Panorama was anything but sweet. The Lions failed to accumulate 100 yards of offense against the Panthers, and Junior quarterback Jeff Herbers threw an interception. Herbers gave the Lions offense some hope though, averaging 10 yards per carry, and 70 yards total. Herbers’ brother Nathan torched the Charger defense last year with five touchdowns on nearly 250 yards passing.

The Chargers look to avenge the 45-7 defeat in Guthrie Center last year. Kickoff is at 7pm in Urbandale, and can be heard on KKRF2 and online at raccoonvalleyradio.com.
