The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Tuesday.
During open forum, Sheriff and Jefferson Fire Chief Jack Williams talked about his trip with several other area firefighters to Texas to help with boat rescues of victims from Tropical Storm Harvey. Additionally, the Assistant to the Greene County Attorney Thomas Lahne reported that he wants to see a better prosecution rate for county domestic abuse cases. He thought if the county had a better prosecution rate, then more people would be willing to testify in future domestic cases.
County Environmental Health Administrator Chuck Wenthold then gave the Board two master matrix scoring projects. One was for an expansion for Youngbloods in Bristol Township and the other was for an expansion for Grey Owl Farms, LLC Kave Finishers in Highland Township. Both scores will be reviewed during September 11th’s regular meeting, and both public hearings are scheduled for September 18th.
The Board heard an update from Jefferson Matters: Main Street Program Director Peg Raney. She talked about projects and meetings that are coming up. She said there are 97 businesses in the downtown historical district, that makes up 40-acres of land with a taxable valuation of $8 million.
The Board then approved the law enforcement and municipal ordinance for the City of Scranton as presented, a total of over $34,000 for another round of forgivable mortgage release for down payment assistance properties and the Emergency Support Function 10 of the Emergency Support Plan for the hazmat section was adopted by the Board.
Finally, County Engineer Wade Weiss brought up a concern with the Board. He said County Road P-46 is in bad shape with several large pieces of broken concrete that was created by MidAmerican Energy transporting sections of the wind turbines. He said he is going to pull the pavement patching crew that’s working on County Road N-65 to P-46 to temporarily patch it while the project is going on with MidAmerican Energy. He also told the Board that MidAmerican is planning to put another 85 wind turbines in the county at a later date, but he would like to discuss plans to prevent future road deterioration before the next project begins.
