With the school board elections coming up next week, we continue to look at the candidates running for Greene County School Board.
Lana Teeples was born in Rockwell City and has lived in Jefferson since 1999. She’s served on a few boards, such as the Greene County Youth Baseball and Softball Association, Greene County Swim Team and was district chair for both the Iowa Hospice Palliative Association and the Academy of Neonatal Nursing.
When it comes to education, Teeples says she’s progressive, but with a conservative approach. She believes different generations have different learning styles, but she also thinks we should look back to the past to base educational needs of today. Teeples describes two main things she would like to see change if elected to the school board.
“There’s accountability pieces that sometimes I think observing the school board and some of the action from the last couple of years that (we ask ourselves) ‘Do we need to go back and reevaluate the process and how we’re doing with the process?’ And then looking at aside from my own experience, I think there needs to be a larger accountability for the (community) members once serving on that board.”
When asked if she would be in favor of doing another bond referendum if elected to a four-year term, she says she would bring both the “yes” and “no” voters to the table and determine what the “needs” and “wants” are from their perspective for the district. Teeples says she’s running to be on the Greene County School Board because she wants to capitalize on opportunities for the district when they are available.
The election will be held on Tuesday, September 12th.
