Jefferson Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a public meeting about a project to connect all of the City’s parks.

JPRD received a grant last year from the National Parks Service to develop designs to connect all six of the City’s parks. Part of the grant stipulated that an independent party must create the plans for the project. JPRD Director Vicky Lautner says they enlisted Iowa State University’s Landscape Architecture and Community and Regional Planning Department for one of their students to make the plans.

Third year ISU student Zoey Mauck will lead the public meeting. She will share her experiences and observations of Jefferson as a cyclist, present a slideshow of her observations and will show a sidewalk analysis of Jefferson’s parks with a map. She will be using simplest connections, utilizing quieter streets and talking about pushing boundaries for trails. This is the first of three public meetings that Mauck will be conducting before taking the next step in the process.

The meeting will be held tomorrow night from 5 to 6:30pm at the Greene County Community Center. It is free and open to the public.
