There’s nothing like fresh air and the outdoors, except when you find materials that don’t belong in nature.
In conjunction with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources’ Volunteer Day, Springbrook State Park will be hosting an Un-Natural Trail Clean-Up Saturday, September 30th from 1-3pm. Volunteers will meet in the parking lot above the lake and are strongly encouraged to bring hiking shoes, water bottles, and gloves. Trash bags will be provided.
Training Specialist Anne Riordan sees this as an opportunity to generate more programs. “I know we won’t have a whole lot of campers throughout late fall and winter, but I’m going to try to find some programming that would be something people are interested in and keep going. I’m kind of testing the waters to see what people want to do.”
Small prizes will be awarded for largest volume of litter collected, greatest effort, and oldest artifact discovered. For more information, contact Anne at anne.riordan@dnr.iowa.gov.
