Today is the day of Greene County’s annual home cross-country meet at Spring Lake State Park northwest of Grand Junction. The Rams are hosting some 25 schools in girls and boys high school and middle school races.

Coach Jeff Lamoureux said the event was moved back to Spring Lake last year after an absence of several years. “We’ve had several comments from coaches, runners, and fans, about having it at Spring Lake. It’s a very scenic setting for cross-country and a relatively flat course. There are several vantage points where fans can see the runners. All in all, it’s a popular place to have a meet.”

Greene County’s girls were second last Thursday at the Wildcat Classic near Menlo hosted by West Central Valley. Sophomore Bailey Cunningham led the way with a fourth place finish. The Greene County boys have been last in both meets prior to today, but they have had enough runners for a team score, which was in doubt when practices began last month.
