Greene County fell to 0-3 on the high school football season with last Friday’s 31-12 Class 3A District 2 loss to third rated Dallas Center-Grimes at Grimes (3-0, 1-0). Up next for Coach Mitch Moore’s Rams is a home date at Linduska Field in Jefferson with number 6 Webster City, last season’s playoff runner-up. The Lynx are coached by Bob Howard, who coached at Scranton more than 35 years ago. This year’s Webster City team is 3-0 and is rated sixth in 3A.
Greene County certainly had some positives against DC-G, including scoring 12 points, which is five more than the Mustangs allowed in their first two games combined. One of the touchdowns came on a pass interception and return of 23 yards from junior linebacker Clay Smith, who intercepted two Nathan Clapper passes on the night. The other TD was a pass of 14 yards from junior Clint Dennhardt to senior Jordan Patterson. Sophomore Nick Breon’s kickoff return of 82 yards set up the Dennhardt to Patterson pass. Breon also had a pass interception.
Other highlights included holding DC-G scoreless for nearly the first 15 minutes of playing time, and the Rams did not have a turnover from the line of scrimmage. The Mustangs did block a Greene County field goal attempt and return the ball 85 yards for a touchdown.
Game time with the Lynx on Friday is 7:30 p.m. with coverage on KG98 and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com starting at 6:30 p.m.
