This evening at the Hotel Pattee, Hometown Heritage of Perry is hosting a special event detailing the history of Dallas County.

Historian and recently-published author Darcy Maulsby will be at the hotel starting at 7 p.m., sharing stories from her new book. Hometown Heritage Research Associate Alissa Whitmore told Raccoon Valley Radio a few topics Maulsby will discuss.

“She’s going to be giving a presentation to start off the event, going to be sharing some stories about some of the notorious events that have happened in Dallas County. Things like Bonnie and Clyde. Other things that she’ll definitely be talking about are going to be Iowa’s history of coal mining, some of the mines in the area, as well as Presidents who have visited. Other things that make Perry a little bit unique, and make Dallas County unique.”

After Maulsby’s presentation, she will give guided tours of selected rooms at the hotel. There will also be Iowa-themed desserts available. This is the first of three history events with Maulsby this fall, with the next happening in October. There is no cost to attend, and Whitmore says it’s appropriate for all ages.
