Perry Carnegie Library Entrance

There’s probably more history in Perry and Dallas County than even some residents realize, but everyone will get a chance to learn about that soon thanks to Hometown Heritage.

Research Assistant Alissa Whitmore has been working on a photograph exhibit at the Carnegie Library Museum, and it’s just about ready to go. “So we have historic photos that relate to Perry’s history that are part of Hometown Heritage’s collection. And I’ve also been loaned some artifacts and objects from Forest Park Museum from (Curator) Pete Malmberg that I’ll be incorporating as well.”

Some of the stories to be told from the photos include how infamous outlaw Buck Barrow wound up dying in the Perry Hospital after he and his wife Blanche were involved in a shoot out. There will also be pictures and stories about Babe Ruth’s visit to the City, and cartoonist “Snick” Hamlin, a Perry native.

The exhibit will be ready either this week or early next week at the Carnegie Library, and there is no cost to view it. To learn more about Hometown Heritage, listen to Monday’s Perry Fareway Let’s Talk Dallas County program at RaccoonValleyRadio.com.
