An over-a-year-old case resulted in a guilty verdict for a Jefferson woman.
According to court documents, 20-year-old Karah Jean Brown was found guilty on an amended charge for trespassing.
The verdict stems from an incident on August 31, 2016, where Jefferson Police Officers responded to a call about Brown entering her sister’s home illegally. When officers arrived on scene, they saw Brown running down an alley from her sister’s home in the 200 block of South Maple Street. Court documents show the original charges of a Class D Felony for second degree burglary, an aggravated misdemeanor for first degree harassment and a simple misdemeanor for fifth degree criminal mischief were amended to misdemeanors for fifth degree criminal mischief, third degree harassment and trespassing.
Court documents state that the magistrate couldn’t find supporting evidence for the criminal mischief or harassment charges, but found her guilty of trespassing.
Brown was ordered to pay a $100 fine, $125 in surcharges and attorney fees.
