Most people think fishing is reserved as a spring or summer activity. However, fall can actually be an excellent time to fish. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources recommends numerous spots in Guthrie County to reel in a nice catch.
Lakes, ponds, and reservoirs offer ample opportunity for fishing in Guthrie County. The DNR suggests Bays Branch two miles southeast of Yale, Springbrook Lake in Springbrook State Park, and Sutcliff Woodland Pond ten miles north of Adair.
Fall is a great time to fish as cooler temperatures and shorter daylight spans instinctively force fish to find food reserves for the winter and emit predictable patterns. The DNR suggests targeting the warmest parts of the lakes, which occur mostly in shallow water bays along the north shore. For more tips and trends, visit iowadnr.gov/fishing.
