Due to a variety of injuries and suspensions, the Perry football team will take on a new look tonight when they travel to Gilbert to battle the 1-4 Tigers.  Perry will be looking to snap a four game losing stand in the 7:30 kickoff.  Last week’s 42-7 loss to ranked Dallas Center Grimes took a toll on the Perry squad.  The Bluejays lost two key contributors on the defensive side of the football plus a starting lineman.  Kade Kilmer and Connor Kenyon are both questionable for tonight after sustaining injuries in last week’s game.  Perry will also start the game tonight without Alexis Garrido and Mana Martinez due to a team decision.  Both will be able to play in the second quarter tonight.

The most noticeable change will take place at quarterback as Kaleb Olejniczak gets ready for his first varsity start.  Olejniczak has only played cornerback this season due to a hand injury suffered in fall camp.   The hand is healed and the coaches are hoping that Olejniczak’s understanding of the offense can get a Perry offense back on track that hasn’t a touchdown in two weeks.

“Kaleb is a really intelligent kid,” added Head Coach Matt Hardy.  “He has played a lot of quarterback growing up going all the way back to the Giants and the Titans in the youth padded league.  I worked with him in the past on our freshman team and I can tell you he is a kid that understands the reads and understands why I call certain plays.  I’m excited to have him under center and I think good things will follow.”

You can listen to Perry and Gilbert tonight beginning at 6:30 with the Perry Hy-Vee coaches show on KDLS and raccoonvalleyradio.com.
