If you have time today, head to Urbandale High School to see the Perry High School Marching Band perform in the 20th annual Urbandale Marching Invitational.

The event starts at 3:30 p.m. today, with Perry scheduled to take the field at 7:05. They are one of ten class 3A bands participating in the competition, and one of 23 total schools at the event. The band will play their field show, entitled “Letters from a P.O.W.,” an original composition by Randall Standridge. Perry Band Director Brad Sparks says the piece tells the story of a soldier going off to war and writing letters to his family.

Sparks says the students are excited for the competition, and hopeful to place high. At last year’s event, Perry placed 4th in class 3A, as well as 4th in percussion and 3rd in color guard. Admission for the show is $6 for adults and students in grades 9-12, and $4 for students in kindergarten through 8th grade.
