With the city elections coming soon, Dallas County Auditor Julia Helm reminds voters they can find a lot of information on the county’s website.
If you go to the elections page on the website, there’s a link that has a list of every candidate for every city election for this year. Included with that is contact information for each candidate. Helm says people should feel free to contact the candidates to ask them any direct questions ahead of Election Day. Also found on the website are the questions for each individual city’s local option sales tax measure. The measure will be considered countywide, but each city has it’s own language for the voters to consider.
Helm explains, “You would definitely want to look at your city’s, because each of them are unique. Like Bouton’s will be different than DeSoto’s, then different than Granger or Perry. So I would encourage voters to look at those, or call the office and we can help you find it, because it is unique to each city. And then of course the unincorporated will also have a question that the Board of Supervisors set, and that is also on there, and that is a unique question also.”
Helm adds, normally the people living in the unincorporated areas of the county wouldn’t be voting in a city election. However, this election they will need to because of the local option sales tax measure. She reminds those voters they will need to go to their regular federal election precinct to vote. If you’re not sure where that is, you can contact the auditor’s office at 515-993-6914.
