One person was injured following a hunting accident last Sunday in Greene County.
Sheriff Jack Williams says just before 2pm, a deputy, the Jefferson Fire Department and Greene County Emergency Medical Services responded to an incident where a hunter fell out of a tree stand north of 220th Street near J Avenue.
Williams tells Raccoon Valley Radio Charles Beddow and another male were setting up a tree stand to hunt, when Beddow fell about 12- to 15-feet. Williams says Beddow wasn’t wearing any safety equipment when setting up the tree stand. Beddow suffered serious head and back injuries and was taken to Greene County Medical Center by Greene County EMS. He was eventually taken to a Des Moines hospital.
Williams recommends to wear a waist and shoulder harness that straps to the tree when setting up a tree stand to hunt from.
