For the past few weeks, the Panora City Council has discussed making changes to park hours. The Council put those changes on hold pending feedback from the Panora Park Board.
The origin of the proposed changes comes from a few complaints voiced by residents regarding loud music and pick-up basketball games played late at night. The Council moved forward with plans to amend the park hours, to close earlier and open later in the day, after discussions during the August 28th meeting. At the following meeting Park Board Chair Taber Lincoln addressed the Council on the issue. Lincoln feels it’s unfair to limit the times for a few small cases, especially since those who are in the parks late at night are not committing any illegal activities. After discussion later that evening, the Council determined the Park Board would need to meet again before discussing possible changes.
The only concern at this time for the Park Board is the lack of responsibility from dog owners who fail to remove their pets’ waste. The next Panora City Council Meeting is Monday October 9th at 6:30 pm in Panora City Hall.
