They’re still looking for their first true win of the season, but the Adel-Desoto-Minburn Tigers football team (1-5 overall; 0-4 Class 3A District 7) saw defensive improvements in Friday nights setback versus Denison-Schleswig Monarchs (4-2 overall; 3-1 Class 3A District 7). The Monarchs outlasted the Tigers 14-13, scoring the go-ahead touchdown with 25 seconds remaining on a one-yard run by quarterback Drew Polzin.

ADM’s defense set two season high’s in the loss. The Tigers, who forced three total punts in the first five weeks, made Denison-Schleswig boot the ball away six times. ADM also forced four Monarch turnovers, three fumbles, and an interception. Senior Brandon Thompson came up with two of the turnovers including the interception. ADM head football coach Mike Whisner says while he saw growth defensively, there’s still room for improvement. “We had them stopped twice on the last drive, and for some reason, we didn’t tackle the guy we went for a pick.” Whisner said, “They gave a lot of effort to that point but just do the simple thing, make a tackle, and the clock keeps running.”

The ADM football team return to the field Friday in Atlantic, battling the Trojans in district action.
