IMG_1040Last Saturday, Iowans took part in several activities to spruce up all of the state parks. Springbrook State Park participated in the Department of Natural Resources’ Volunteer Day with their “Un-Natural Trail Clean-up” event.

Around 15 people of all ages came out to Springbrook to collect garbage and any other objects that don’t belong in the Park. The crew didn’t find much trash as the Park regularly benefits from year-round volunteers who help make the Park as natural as possible. However, one campground individual found a bottle originally manufactured at the old Jefferson Bottling Company. Some eager volunteers put in some extra effort by collecting debris around the lake while kayaking.

At the end of the day, three volunteers, who were travelling from a music festival in Exira, were inspired by the natural beauty and performed an impromptu concert. Park Training Specialist Anne Riordan hopes this impromptu concert can turn into a future event featuring music at the Park. The Park usually does this clean-up once per year, however several service organizations complete required projects by cleaning up the Park.
