In the first two weeks of the West Central Valley football season, senior Brock Wolfe emerged as a force to be reckoned with. Little did the rest of District 1A-6 know that the Wildcats were sitting on another secret weapon. While he emerged two weeks ago against Madrid, junior Cole Arnburg put on the performance of his high school career against Ogden last Friday, helping the Wildcats to their second win of the season. The Wildcats defeated the Bulldogs 33-12 to improve to 2-4 overall.
Arnburg pounded the Bulldog defense with a career high 244 yards on six catches and four touchdowns. Arnburg is the first Wildcat in recorded history to average 40 receiving yards on five catches or more in a game and broke the record for the longest touchdown catch with a 90 yard score. Arnburg also broke Wolfe’s record for most receiving yards in a game, which was set in week one this season with 175 yards over ACGC. Additionally, junior quarterback Carson Wadle also became the second Wildcat ever to throw for over 300 yards in a game. Ethan Gilman threw for 399 yards against Southeast Valley back in 2008. The Wildcats had similar success last season against Ogden when Wolfe hauled in three touchdowns and 154 yards receiving.
The Wildcats never trailed in the game, scoring the first 25 points. The dynamic duo of Wolfe and Arnburg has arrived just in time for the three most important matches of the season. The Wildcats begin the gauntlet hosting playoff charging Van Meter, who hasn’t given up a point in the last three matches. The Senior Night Kickoff is scheduled for 7 pm in Stuart.
