The 21st Century has brought with it an era of transparency, especially in government and politics. Congressman David Young welcomed the opportunity for open discussion with his constituents at his open office hours at the Panora Public Library last Saturday.
Young set aside two hours in Panora to discuss concerns and ideas with constituents of the 16 counties in Iowa’s Third District, including Guthrie, Adair, and Dallas counties. The one-on-one, first come, first serve meetings also gave constituents a chance to seek advice on casework with a particular federal agency or program.
Young welcomed the opportunity as a way to thank the people of his district for electing him as their US Representative and remember those he serves. “The President is our President. He’s not my boss though. The Speaker of the House isn’t my boss either. My bosses are the people of the third district, and so that’s who I pay attention to. ”
Young holds open office hour sessions once a month in each of the 16 counties. For more reaction from Young, listen to today’s Let’s Talk Guthrie County program.
