health_advertising_healthiest-state-initiative_logo1Wednesday is Iowa’s Healthiest State Walk Initiative.

Greene County Medical Center is encouraging a “Wellness Walk” starting at noon from the main lobby of the medical center, down Lincoln Way to the Greene County Community Center. Another walk is scheduled at the Greene County Elementary School at 9:30am and the Grand Junction Horizon’s Club has also organized a community walk at 5:30pm at the city swimming pool, where participants will walk about two miles.

One Greene County High School class is taking a slightly different approach. Students in the Skills for Healthy Living class created a powerpoint presentation on healthy living information with nutritional food choices, exercise and mental health that was shared in advisory classes this week. They are also encouraging all students and staff to use a different mode of transportation on Wednesday other than driving. However, if someone chooses to drive, they must park in the freshmen parking lot and walk the rest of the way to the school building. Students will also document how many people change their mode of transportation on that day.

Iowa’s Healthiest State Walk is an organization dedicated to making Iowa the healthiest state in the nation on a designated day.

All walks are free and open to the public.
