The Dallas County Board of Supervisors convened Tuesday morning in regular session.
Several items on the agenda dealt with the new law enforcement center, including awarding a work contract for the ground work. There were six bids received, with the lowest being from McAninch Corporation for $162,035. The estimated cost was $232,000, so the Board was pleased the low bid was so far below. The Supervisors accepted the bid, pending approval from the City of Adel Board of Adjustment, the county attorney, and the Samuels Group.
They also heard more from McClure Engineering about the Adel sewer system being extended to the law enforcement center. The City has formally submitted a proposal to the State Revolving Fund program of the Department of Natural Resources to fund the project. They should know by March if they are approved for the money, but in the meantime the Supervisors will continue to explore their options. The Board then approved service contracts relating to the bond referendum, with Ahlers and Cooney as bond counsel and Piper Jaffrey as financial advisors. They also decided to utilize the services of both Northland Securities and Piper Jaffrey for different aspects of the bond issuance.
The Board did spend time on topics not related to the law enforcement center, including: approving a contract with Holm Bridge Inspections, a contract with Freese-Notis Weather for weather forecasting services, and a tractor purchase, all for the secondary roads department; accepting a bid for watering services for the courthouse lawn with T&T Sprinkler, but tabling a decision on accepting a landscaping bid; and a departmental workshop with public health.
The meeting concluded with an exempt session for the purpose of conducting a negotiations strategy meeting.
