GC Public HealthGreene County Public Health continues to bring convenience to getting a flu shot with community flu clinics later this month.

Immunization Coordinator Jill Juergensen says the next community flu clinics are scheduled for this Friday at St. Brigid’s Parish Center in Grand Junction from 10am to noon and at the Rippey Public Library from 1 to 3pm. Monday, October 9th, public health will be at the Scranton Congregate Meal Site from 9 to 11am. The final community flu clinic is at the public health department at Greene County Medical Center from 8am to 4pm on Friday, October 20th.

Juergensen points out that they will be at Greene County and Paton-Churdan parent-teacher conferences as well. They will be at Greene County on October 5th, 24th and 26th, as well as November 7th and 9th. Paton-Churdan’s will be November 2nd and 7th.

Juergensen says every year the Centers for Disease Control determines what flu strains will be most prevalent.

“Getting your flu vaccine each year protects you against those viruses that they have identified for that particular flu season. They say that if you get the flu vaccine every year, it actually increases your immunity to different flu viruses and helps protect you from year to year. But it is very important to get your flu vaccine every year because the virus changes.”
