The Heart of Iowa Activities Conference holds is annual conference meet today. It’s at the Jewell Country Club hosted by South Hamilton. Greene County will be among the eight schools in the field. There will be middle school and high school races for girls and boys. High school competition is slated to begin at 5 p.m.
Greene County Coach Jeff Lamoureux said this about the HOIAC. “Our conference could be one of the toughest in the state with rated teams and rated individuals. It’s tough competition, but I think our teams are headed in the right direction.”
The league has three boys teams and three girls team ranked in the top 15 in their respective classes. On the boys’ side, South Hamilton is fifth and Roland-Story (Story City) seventh in 2A, while Gilbert is ranked third in 3A. For girls, North Polk (Alleman) is fourth and Gilbert sixth in 3A, and PCM (Monroe) is rated number 15 in 2A.
Sophomore Bailey Cunningham has been the top runner for Greene County all season. She’s seen teammates Haley Hall, Conner Allender, Kassie Lamoureux, and others drop their times and improve their placings as the season has gone on.
